Tinned Italian Tuna Packed in Olive Oil

A far cry from your average watered down can of supermarket tuna, this tin contains compact, meaty fillets of yellowfin tuna with clean, fresh tasting olive oil to keep the flakes moist and firm.

Ingredients: Yellowfin tuna, olive oil, salt.

How to use

This lightweight can is a handy addition to the camping kit or picnic basket and makes a great snack straight from the tin. At home, flake this tuna onto Salad Niçoise or layer it onto a baguette with your favorite toppings. Try blending IASA Yellowfin Tuna Fillets with IASA Anchovy Fillets to make tonnato—the creamy, umami-packed Piedmontese sauce traditionally paired with veal—and zhuzh up roasted vegetables or salads, like in our recipe for Tomato & Fennel Salad with Lemony Tonnato Sauce.

About the Producer

Because of its close proximity to the sea, nearly every family in Cetara, a village tucked away in a small cove of the Amalfi Coast, has a connection to it. One of these families is the di Mauro family. Francesco di Mauro, a retired Navy Captain, founded Ittica Alimentare Salerno (IASA) and was among the first companies to preserve the bounty of tuna and anchovies brought in by the local fishermen.  Today, Francesco’s dynamic sons and daughter manage IASA. During the fishing season, April through September, the company employs a team of 50 local workers. IASA is the only company in Italy that does most of the work of packing the anchovies by hand - Gutting and cleaning the fish, placing layers of anchovies in drums with sea salt, and hand packing the anchovies in jars.

The best tuna

We did not know what to expect when we made a salad with arugula, olives, avocado, and this tuna. We were completely delighted by the flavor, the texture, the oiliness. By the way, we dumped the oil from the tin on the salad. It is so perfect and worth every cent.
