When you open a jar of Masseria Mirogallo's Mediterranean Pesto, you can almost smell the southern Italian air. This estate-made sauce is a simple, classic combination of 4 ingredients: basil, sun-dried tomatoes, Italian extra virgin olive oil and salt (no preservatives here).

Unlike Ligurian Pesto alla Genovese and Sicilian Pesto alla Trapanese, Masseria Mirogallo's Mediterranean Pesto is not made with any cheese or nuts, allowing the estate-grown produce to take center stage. The pesto is deep and nuanced from the oil-cured tomatoes with a bright herbaceous flavor from the basil and just the right amount of salt.

Delicious but not pesto

This is a delicious spread made mostly with sun-dried tomatoes and olive oil, and some basil leaves. No cheese, no pine nuts (or any nuts). Perfect for bruschetta or just on crusty toast. There do not seem to be olives in it, though the color is rather dark. Not too spicy but definitely tasty and well balanced.
