Olasagasti Bonito del Norte Tuna in Olive Oil
These plump pieces of tinned Bonito del Norte (albacore tuna) are tender and flaky. Preserving the fish in quality olive oil, Olasagasti manages to achieve a tinned tuna that’s silken in texture. More delicate in flavor than tuna belly, Bonito del Norte is especially well-suited to sandwiches, tuna salads, and tossing with pasta. Not all canned tuna is created equal, and Olasagasti is proof—one of the few artisanal, family-owned Basque tuna canneries still in operation today.
In the late 1800s, Salvatore Orlando brought his Sicilian recipes north to the Cantabrian coast—and that heritage remains the heart of everything Olasagasti does today. They source their fish from the Cantabrian Sea using traditional methods, believing the region's conditions are what give their products their distinctive flavor and texture. The result is simple: tinned fish that honors both the coast it comes from and the generations of craft behind it.
