Burlap & Barrel’s single-origin cinnamon is grown by a small cooperative of farmers in Zanzibar, a group of islands off the eastern coast of Tanzania. The cinnamon is cut by hand from the younger branches of the cinnamon tree and sun-dried, preserving its intense flavor. Burlap & Barrel’s cinnamon verum is fragrant and earthy with bright, sweet notes of molasses, citrus, oak and honey.
Burlap & Barrel's cinnamon verum shavings are equally delicious in both sweet and savory preparations. On the sweet side, grind and use in your favorite baked good recipes, from muffins and quick breads to cookies and cakes. This aromatic spice also makes a beautiful addition to milk-based desserts like rice pudding, panna cotta and vanilla ice cream.
On the savory side, grind a couple pieces of cinnamon verum into spice mixes (we love it paired with smoky Pimentón de La Vera DOP, spicy Marash chili and Wild Mountain Cumin seeds). For a simple, yet elegant side, add a couple shavings of cinnamon and a pinch of salt to rice before cooking.
