Italian Marzipan Cookies with Chocolate
Ricciarelli are tender, moist marzipan cookies originally from Siena, in Tuscany. This chocolate version of the traditional treat, from Siena's famous Pasticerria Sinatti, is made with cocoa powder and orange liqueur, in addition to coarsely-ground almonds, sugar, honey and vanilla. Delicate and fragrant, ricciarelli have a crackly surface that gives way to a soft, melt-in-your-mouth center. Serve these Italian chocolate almond cookies with afternoon tea or coffee, or at dessert accompanied by gelato or glasses of Prosecco.
