North African-Style Spice Mix for Marinades, Dips & Sauces
Warning: open this jar and you'll instantly be transported to a Moroccan spice market. Made by KL Keller Foodways, this 14-ingredient blend is inspired by founder Kitty Keller's travels throughout North Africa, the spice markets she visited and the amazing food she ate along the way.
Kitty's version is an aromatic combination of spices and herbs like cumin, paprika, cayenne, Aleppo pepper, cinnamon, dried cilantro and parsley. Plus its kitchen-friendly 1.4-ounce size allows the home cook to keep fresh flavors on hand (no stale spices here) without maintaining a spice-bazaar-sized pantry.
How to use
Smoky, savory, spicy, Chermoula Spice Blend is as versatile as it is delicious—mix with olive oil and use as a marinade for meats and seafood, stir into mayonnaise for a flavorful sandwich spread or use as a seasoning for vegetables before roasting or grilling.
Try making chermoula-spiced pita chips: toss triangles of pita with olive oil and a healthy smattering of Chermoula Spice Blend. Spread pita triangles in one layer on a baking sheet and toast until golden in a 400°F degree oven, about 10–15 minutes. Serve alongside your favorite dip (we love them with baba ganoush).
The flavor of KL Keller's Chermoula Spice Blend shines when bloomed in olive oil. In a small skillet, gently heat a couple tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil over medium heat, add a spoonful of the spice blend and sauté for 15–30 seconds. Drizzle over hummus, swirl into plain yogurt for an easy yet flavorful dip or spoon over avocado toast with a sprinkle of fleur de sel.
