Unfiltered British Malt Vinegar
Unlike most commercial malt vinegars, Artisan Malt Vinegar is unfiltered and oak-aged, resulting in a more complex, full-bodied flavor. Made from English Maris Otter malt and local Cornish spring water, this vinegar matures in oak barrels for almost a full year in which it develops notes of caramel, dark chocolate and a mellow bite. Artisan Vinegar Company never adds caramel coloring, sweeteners or preservatives, bottling only pure malt vinegar that still contains “the mother,” a mass of good bacteria that forms during fermentation.
How to use
Artisan Malt Vinegar is a classic pairing for fish and chips, but can also be used for so much more than traditional pub fare. With a depth and nuance similar to that of wine vinegar, Artisan Malt Vinegar lends dimension to dressings, marinades, pickles and chutneys and bright notes to braised meats, chili and other slow-simmered dishes.
About the producer
When founders Mark and Leonora Nattrass realized there were little to no premium malt vinegar producers, the pair set out to be one of the first. They spent five years perfecting their malt vinegar recipe, the entire time remaining committed to using only the best ingredients. But that’s not the only thing that sets them apart. Artisan Vinegar Company makes all of their products in a decommissioned Cold War-era bunker in Cornwall, UK. Aside from being bomb-proof, the bunker’s thick concrete walls create a temperature-controlled environment ideal for long-aging barrels of vinegar.
