Tomato Sauce from Rustichella d'Abruzzo


The simplest ingredients prepared with care. Free of additives & preservatives, this sauce is packed with fresh tomatoes, extra virgin olive oil, & fresh basil.

All of the tomato sauces are made in the same traditional way - sweating the vegetables (onions, carrots, garlic), adding fresh tomatoes (peeled and seeded), and seasoning with basil and salt. The rest is up to the flavorings (chiles for Arrabiatta, roasted peppers for Arrostiti, anchovies, tuna and capers for Puttanesca). All of the sauces are cooked for the minimum amount of time to lock in the freshness of the tomatoes.

    I purchased this thinking it's got to be better than what I make from San Marzano tomatoes at home... not so much. It wasn't really worth the price and the shipping.

    My son and I have an allergy to garlic. We stumbled upon this tomato sauce after searching for a garlic free sauce for years. It is amazing!! All the children and adults who come over for pizza and pasta parties, say it's the best sauce they have ever tasted!

    Lately, I have been into making everything myself, but I decide to try this sauce and can't quit it now (as in "addicted to"). It's just what I want from a Tomato Sauce. Simple, straightforward, and delicious! Plus, I buy it buy the case and get the discount.

    When I lived in Siena I started buying Rustichella d'Abruzzo and discovered it had a savory and slightly sweet flavor that was better than my own marinara. I was delighted to find I could get this wonderful sugo through Market Hall Foods, and I'm currently hastening through my 4th case. I've tried most of the jars but only this one would I give 5 stars.
