We've all seen it - the abbey on a hilltop that seems to rise straight out of the ocean. Mont Saint-Michel is the iconic island off the coast of Northwestern France and it's also home to the producer of one of our new favorite treats.
When our friend Kitty Keller told us she was going to be importing a Double Chocolate Sable, as well as a Salted Caramel Sable, we were initially skeptics. Could the classic French butter cookie be improved upon? We were certainly willing to put aside our inhibitions…in the name of research.
Well, we were immediately hooked. The Double Chocolate has rich, dark cocoa powder and bittersweet chocolate chips and is sweetened with a bit of brown sugar for a deeper flavor. Be sure you save any crumbles from the bottom of the tin - they're great sprinkled over ice cream.
