There are lots of different kinds of candied chestnuts out there - these are not marrons glaces, but candied chestnuts in syrup. Agrimontana has worked for decades to revive the traditional chestnut, or marrone, of Northern Italy. The Piedmont chestnut has an ideal texture and flavor for candying - starchy and sweet. The peeled chestnuts are poached gently in sugar syrup flavored with their own Bourbon vanilla.

I was SO excited to see this product back in stock and immediately ordered a jar. These are a really delicious treat, and quite unlike anything I've had before. The chestnuts are perfectly cooked, so they're soft, but still a bit firm - not mushy at all - and soaked in a really nice syrup. They're great spooned on ice cream or with a basic cake, but they're also really delicious eaten right out of the jar. A perfect thing for the holidays, too!
